A new framework for when to trust intuition over reflection.

Updated: Feb 15, 2023

Some people say you should "trust in your gut", while other people argue that analytic thinking is better. Who is right? To answer this question, ClearerThinking founder Spencer Greenberg recently gave a TEDx talk on the role of intuition in decision-making. If you want to find out when you should rely on instinct instead of reflection, check out the instructive video here!

The talk presents a new decision-making framework that can easily be applied to your own life. The FIRE framework explains when we should prioritise intuitive thought processes - “trusting your gut” - over conscious reflection about what to do, and when reflective thinking is superior. The talk also provides advice on how intuition can be used to reinforce our reflective thinking, helping us to generate predictions and relevant information that we can build into robust models of the world.
